Super Scientists!
Year 3 have been dissecting Tulips to help them learn the scientific names for parts of a flower
In Science, we had great fun learning the scientific names for the parts of a flower. Did you know? Flowers have both male (Stamen) and female (Carpel) parts!! We were able to dissect some tulips and then split each part into the different name labels. We found this really fascinating. If you want to try this at home, you could use a lily flower as this shows really clearly the different parts and you'll be able to collect some pollen too. We then went on to learn all the functions of these different parts. We are looking forward to next week and learning about the life cycle of flowering plants.
