We've found Derek!
Derek has been found at last!
Well-what a brilliant week we have had in Year One! At the beginning of the week we were still extremely concerned about Derek and were wondering how we could possibly find him!
On Monday and Tuesday, we thought it would be a good idea to build traps to catch Derek and we used our speaking and listening skills to clearly explain our ideas in full sentences.
On Wednesday and Thursday we used our creative skills to make our traps. We had some brilliant ideas from telescopes to spot Derek and carrots to entice him in. We talked about the positives in our creations and thought about how we could improve our inventions better next time.
On Friday, we heard the exciting news that Derek had been found! We all had the chance to see him before he was taken back to Farmer Fib. We wrote letters in our neatest handwriting to let Derek’s worried owner know that he had been safely found.
In Science, we continued to think about our senses and had a variety of objects to hear, taste, touch, smell and see. It was great fun guessing which object was which.
All week we have been learning about shapes in numeracy and searched about the school to see what we could find. We have been thinking carefully about their properties and are beginning to name 3D shapes.
Finally, could we please ask that all parents ensure that all their child’s uniform is clearly named as many brand new items of clothing are left unclaimed by the end of the week!
Thanks for reading and let’s see what this week will bring!
