At Paddox we intend to provide children with the knowledge, skills and understanding in order to prepare them for life in today’s diverse society. Pupils are taught PSHE using ‘Jigsaw’ which has an intent to improve children’s capacity to learn, their resilience and enhance emotional well-being and mental health; therefore, improving their life chances.
This cohesive vision helps children to understand and value how they fit and contribute to the world. Jigsaw also includes mindfulness, allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus – therefore impacting their progress across the curriculum.
At Paddox Primary School, Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education (PSHE) equips our pupils with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to make informed decisions and lead healthy, fulfilling lives. We aim to foster their personal development, social responsibilities, and emotional wellbeing, while promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment. Our PSHE curriculum is designed to be relevant, engaging, and progressive, empowering pupils to develop a positive sense of self and become active, responsible citizens in the wider community.
From September 2020, the Department for Education made Relationships, Sex Education and Health Education compulsory in all schools. Relationships Education is taught during the summer term and, where relevant, will be taught alongside the Science curriculum. Our PSHE curriculum is carefully planned to address the needs of our pupils, their age, and developmental stage. The curriculum is broad and balanced, covering personal development, diversity, aspirations, health and relationships. To enrich our PSHE provision, we engage with external specialists and form partnerships to support pupils’ learning. This may include inviting guest speakers, healthcare professionals, or representatives from local charities to deliver workshops or assemblies.
The impact of our PSHE curriculum is evident in the personal development, emotional wellbeing, and positive attitudes of our pupils. The following outcomes are observed:
• Maintain a healthy lifestyle, including physical and mental wellbeing.
• Understand how bodies grow and change.
• Keep themselves and others safe, including the risks and laws of drug taking, and staying safe online.
• Build close and positive relationships with others.
• Learn about economic wellbeing, including money, careers, and other aspirations.
Through our PSHE provision, we nurture well-rounded individuals who are prepared for the challenges of the future. The impact of our curriculum goes beyond academic achievement, empowering our pupils to lead fulfilling lives and contribute positively to society.
