At Paddox Primary School, our Art curriculum inspires pupils to become creative, confident and reflective artists who take pride in their work and appreciate the value of artistic expression.
Our Art curriculum, delivered through the Cornerstones approach, nurtures curiosity, imagination and independence. Pupils are encouraged to experiment, take risks and persevere as they refine their ideas, recognising that creativity develops through practice and resilience.
Art plays a key role in exploring the Cornerstones Big Ideas, particularly creativity, humankind, significance, change, materials and comparison. Through this, pupils learn how art reflects culture, identity and the wider world, while developing respect for different perspectives and traditions.
By the time pupils leave Paddox Primary, they can confidently express their ideas, evaluate their work and show pride in their creative achievements.
Art is taught through engaging Cornerstones Imaginative Learning Projects, following the sequence of Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express.
- Pupils are inspired through artist studies and high-quality stimuli.
- They develop skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printing and textiles, building knowledge progressively over time.
- Opportunities for experimentation and independent outcomes allow pupils to explore their own ideas and individuality.
- Sketchbooks are used to record, practise and reflect on learning.
- Pupils study a diverse range of artists, fostering understanding and respect.
- Regular opportunities to revisit prior learning support pupils to embed knowledge and skills.
Throughout lessons, pupils learn to discuss and evaluate artwork thoughtfully, showing respect for the work of others while striving to improve their own.
Pupils leave Paddox as artists who:
- use a range of techniques and materials with confidence
- think creatively and work independently
- reflect on and improve their work
- speak about art with growing confidence and vocabulary
- show respect for different artistic styles and cultures
