At Paddox Primary School, we celebrate children as individuals and place great value on the wider arts. Alongside our broad and balanced curriculum, we provide memorable experiences through themed days, extra-curricular clubs, educational visits and visiting performers. Below are just some of the wider arts opportunities available to our pupils.

Young Voices

Every year, up to 60 KS2 pupils are given the opportunity to perform at the Young Voices concert at Resorts World Birmingham alongside 6,000 other children. This fantastic experience combines music and performance, allowing children to take part in a truly memorable concert.

To prepare for the event, we run a weekly after-school Young Voices club throughout the Autumn Term. Pupil Premium children are prioritised for places, and financial support is available to help with travel costs where needed.

Rocksteady

Every Friday, pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 can take part in Rocksteady lessons. Children perform as part of a band, learning popular rock and pop songs while developing skills on a range of instruments, including drums, keyboard, electric guitar, bass guitar and vocals.

Each term, the bands perform to parents and peers in live concerts, providing a wonderful opportunity to build confidence and performance skills. Through school funding and matched funding from Rocksteady, 39 Pupil Premium pupils are able to access lessons each year.

Big Sing

In partnership with the Britain’s Got Talent Big Sing Choir, children have the opportunity to take part in a festive concert alongside the choir. In 2026, 40 pupils will perform at the Temple Speech Rooms as part of the Big Sing Christmas Concert.

Christmas Events

Children have many opportunities to perform during the Christmas season, including:

  • Whole-school Christmas Carol Service at St George’s Church
  • Carols in the Den, organised by Friends of Paddox.
  • Choir performances for local elderly residents and dementia support group
  • The Reception Nativity Performance

These events help to foster confidence, community spirit and a love of performing.

Staff Pantomime

Each Christmas, staff put on a pantomime for the children. Written and directed by members of staff, these light-hearted productions provide pupils with the opportunity to enjoy live theatre while sharing lots of laughter and festive fun.

Previous productions have included Snow White and the Seven S’s, Cinderella and The Wizard of Oz.

Federation Concert at the Temple Speech Rooms

As part of our local federation, the Paddox Choir joins pupils from neighbouring schools for an annual singing celebration at the Temple Speech Rooms. Children perform both massed choir pieces and individual songs, showcasing their talents and celebrating the music they have learned throughout the year.

Year 6 Production

Our Year 6 production is much more than an end-of-year assembly. With impressive sets, costumes and performances, it is always a highlight of the school year.

Recent productions have included The Lion King, Matilda, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and Finding Nemo.

Rock Kidz

To support children’s mental health and wellbeing, we host an annual Rock Kidz Day. Pupils and staff come to school dressed as rock stars while the Rock Kidz team delivers assemblies and workshops throughout the day.

These engaging sessions promote positive mental health, self-esteem and self-belief through music, participation and fun.

Rugby School Outreach Opportunities

We are proud to have strong links with Rugby School, which provides a range of exciting outreach opportunities for our pupils.

Each Autumn Term, Year 2 pupils visit Rugby School to take part in the Choral Outreach Day. In the Summer Term, Year 4 pupils attend a Big Sing event as part of the Festival on the Close celebrations. Rugby School students also regularly visit Paddox to support and lead music lessons, which are always enjoyed by our pupils.
