At Paddox Primary School, the safety, welfare and wellbeing of every child is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive and protective environment where children feel safe, valued, respected and confident to seek support from trusted adults whenever they need it.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and extends far beyond child protection alone. It encompasses all aspects of keeping children safe, healthy and supported so that they can learn, grow and achieve their full potential.
This includes:
- protecting children from abuse, neglect and exploitation
- promoting children’s physical, emotional and mental wellbeing
- ensuring pupils are safe in school, online and within the wider community
- monitoring attendance and providing early support when concerns arise
- fostering positive relationships where children feel listened to, respected and supported
- identifying concerns early and taking appropriate action to secure the best outcomes for children.
We have robust safeguarding procedures in place, supported by comprehensive policies, regular staff training and strong partnerships with parents, carers and external agencies. Our safeguarding practice is informed by statutory guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), and is regularly reviewed to ensure it remains effective and responsive to emerging needs.
When concerns are identified, we act promptly, sensitively and appropriately, always placing the child’s welfare at the centre of decision-making.
Safeguarding Through the Curriculum and Everyday School Life
Safeguarding is embedded throughout all aspects of school life at Paddox Primary School.
Through our Personal Development and PSHE curriculum, pupils are taught how to stay safe, recognise risks, build healthy relationships and seek help when they need it. We help children develop the knowledge and confidence to make safe choices both within and beyond school.
Our safeguarding provision includes:
- anti-bullying education and awareness
- online safety lessons and digital citizenship education
- Safer Internet initiatives and awareness events
- assemblies focused on wellbeing, safety and personal development
- pastoral support for pupils and families
- emotional wellbeing and mental health initiatives
- partnership working with external agencies and safeguarding professionals where appropriate.
Safeguarding principles also underpin our approach to behaviour, attendance, pastoral care, health and safety, online safety and early help support.

Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers
We recognise that effective safeguarding relies upon strong partnerships between school and home.
There may be occasions when we need to discuss concerns regarding a child’s welfare or wellbeing. We understand that these conversations can sometimes be difficult, but they are always approached with sensitivity, professionalism and respect.
Our aim is to work collaboratively with families wherever possible, offering support and guidance while ensuring that the needs, safety and best interests of the child remain our primary consideration.

Our safeguarding procedures are supported by a range of policies, including our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, Online Safety Policy and other related safeguarding documents.
